Civil contractors petition to PM against ‘unprecedented’ rise of corruption in Karnataka

Bengaluru, May 6 (KNN) The North Karnataka Civil Contractors’ Association (NKCCA) claimed that corruption has risen over three times in Karnataka during BJP rule than what was in the Congress rule.

The Association has petitioned before the Prime Minister Narendra Modi pleading a strong action to stop the menace.

The Association has warned that ‘if this continues next election will be very tough for BJP.

They have also complained of corruption unleashed by Income Tax officials in collusion with Chartered Accountants.

''Even if everything is made online in Income Tax, they are asking for hard copies and calling to meet them just to get a sum bribe by contractors’ (sic),'' said the North Karnataka Civil Contractors’ Associations.

''They are working as per their wish and will and in this regard, we have given a lot of representation to the Chief Minister and others concerned minister, Chief Secretary, PWD Secretary but from them nothing has been done so far,'' Ravindra R Mane, General secretary, NKCCA told KNN India on Thursday.

He further said that they have also requested several times for the payment of the contractors on the basis of the pending bills.

''For previous projects they are not paying anything which is pending for the last so many months and in some cases, payment has been pending for years. In this regard, they have done a lot of corruption, it will be proved, if you ask the details of the bills for the last one year,'' he added.

The copies of the letter have been sent to Governor of Karnataka Vajubhai Vala, Home Minister Amit Shah and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

The letter has highlighted what is widely known in industry circles in Karnataka. Corruption is especially rampant in public procurement.

But what is unusual is that an industry body has levied charges of corruption against the BJP ruled state to the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister Office (PMO) has directed the respective departments to take action and upload their replies on the PM portal.

Industries bodies in Karnataka are watching the development closely while keeping their fingers crossed.
