The monsoon wreaked widespread destruction across India, claiming lives in Maharashtra and Himachal Pradesh, disrupting rail, road and air services, triggering flash floods and landslides in Jammu and Kashmir, and inundating towns in Odisha as authorities in several states stepped up emergency measures.
