The 93rd Academy Awards are being at a hybrid ceremony in Los Angeles on Sunday (Monday morning for Indian viewers).
David Fincher’s Mank is this year’s most nominated film, with mentions in 10 categories, including Best Picture, Directing and Actor in a Leading Role. Nomadland, Minari, The Father, Judas and the Black Messiah, Sound of Metal and The Trial of the Chicago 7 have six nominations each.
Among the highlights of the Oscars 2021: two women are competing in the Best Director category for the first time ever (Chloe Zhao for Nomadland and Emerald Fennell for Promising Young Woman).
Chadwick Boseman received a posthumous nomination in the Actor in a Leading Role category for his performance as a jazz musician in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. Boseman will compete with Anthony Hopkins, who will be the oldest winner if he gets an Oscar for playing a dementia patient in The Father, and Riz Ahmed for the deafness-themed Sound of Metal. The British-Pakistani Ahmed will be the first Muslim actor to win in this category.
